Forever 27 Club: What is it, and which artists are a part of the club?

The Forever 27 club is a term coined to refer to the musicians who died at the young age of 27. Although the phenomenon was not a prevalent one initially, it gained importance after the death of a number of musicians at the same age. The death of musicians in the year 1969-1971 either due to drugs/ alcohol or due to suicide/homicide or transportation accidents led the audience to believe that the Forever 27 Club phenomena are a real thing. However, statistical studies have failed to see any pattern in the untimely death of the musicians. Here’s a list of some of the top musicians who are a part of the club.

Jimi Hendrix

The guitarist was pronounced dead in London in the year 1970. He was just 27 years of age and the untimely death of the star raised havoc amongst his fans. The official report read that he died due to inhalation of his own vomit as he was intoxicated due to a drug called barbiturate. However, the demise of the musician was reported differently everywhere. While some reported it as accidental death, some said he died in his sleep. Controversies arose as there were alleged inconsistencies in the investigation of his death. His death remains a mystery to date.

Kurt Cobain

The Nirvana frontman has had a history of heroin addiction and mental illness. He committed suicide by pointing a gun at his chin. He left behind a suicide note for his fans and his wife as well as his daughter. He was one of the most iconic musicians of the era and died at the young age of 27. In his note, he said that he has stopped enjoying making music, or reading or writing. He further wrote that he would rather leave than pretend to enjoy. Bidding a farewell to his family he told his wife to go on with her life and that he loves her. He also said that he’ll be at the altar of both his wife and his daughter. However, there is a theory that states that Kurt’s wife Courtney Love orchestrated his death and made it look like a suicide. There was enough substantial proof to support the theory Kurt’s family has always supported the suicide verdict.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse was reportedly dealing with a lot of issues including self-harm, depression, eating disorder and drug and alcohol addiction. It was alleged that she was in a toxic relationship with her husband and it only made her problems worse. She died in 2011 at the age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning. Her last words to her general practitioner was reported to be that she doesn’t want to die. However, the post-mortem report said that she died of alcohol toxicity and probable respiratory arrest.
