Joke on Rajinikanth:

In the trailer of the movie unveiled recently, Jayam Ravi plays the character of a man waking up after 16 years in coma. In the last scene in the trailer, he refuses to believe that it is 2016, when he is shown Rajinikanth’s speech on the TV, where the ‘Petta’ star is saying that he will enter politics. The character says that it is 1996, a reference to how the Superstar had caused Jayalalitha’s defeat in 1996 Tamil Nadu elections with his statements.

As per reports, Murali Appas, who is the Public Relations representative for Kamal Haasan’s party Makkal Needhi Maiam, said that the actor immediately called the producer. He told the producer that he couldn’t see the joke on Rajikanth’s political foray, while asking it was out of friendship or voice of justice.

Ganesh also stated that he has asked director Pradeep Ranganathan to make the required changes. The director stated that he will convert it into a scene that Rajinikanth fans will enjoy.

Jayam Ravi releases statement:

Jayam Ravi also released a statement over the row, stating that he has always tried to maintain a clean image, but the scene had unfortunately upset Thalaivar fans. He said the scene was meant in a positive light and that being a fan himself, he couldn’t think of disrespecting the veteran.

Jayam Ravi stated Rajinikanth himself had seen it and appreciated it for the creative appeal and unique idea. However, due to the negative comments, they have decided to do away with the scene.
