KGF box office: Yash starrer makes history as it crosses Rs 100 crore in Karnataka itself, details inside

'KGF' has become a surprise hit in the pan Indian market ever since its release on December 21 but the film was a sure shot blockbuster in Karnataka even before the release. The Prashant Neel directorial has since been marching at the box office, breaking record after record and now it has added a new one.

'KGF' has become a surprise hit in the pan Indian market ever since its release on December 21. The film was a sure shot blockbuster in Karnataka even before the release, but the way it quashed the competition, in this case, Shah Rukh Khan's 'Zero' spoke volumes about its potential. The Prashant Neel directorial has since been marching at the box office, breaking record after record and now it has added a new one.

'KGF' has successfully crossed the Rs 100 crore at the Kannada box office. The Yash starrer had already become the highest grossing film in Sandalwood but with this historic feat, it became the second film after 'Baahubali 2' to cross 100 crore mark in the state. As for global figures, the film has already breezed past Rs 175 crore all around the world. 

Surprisingly, the number of screens have even increased over the days since its release, with the action flick finding audiences in many new countries, the latest one being Singapore.  Coming to the Hindi belt, the film had earned more than Rs 32 crore in the first two weeks since its release. From the looks of it, it seems that 'KGF' will blast past Rs 200 crore in the global box office by the time it is done with its run in theatres.

Coming to the film itself, when Yash was asked why 'KGF' was released in such a wide scale, he replied that it was to show the world that Kannada film industry is not inferior to any other industry. He also revealed that it was SS Rajamouli's two-part magnum opus 'Baahubali' that inspired them to release 'KGF' in over five languages. Initially, the makers were planning for only Kannada audiences with English subtitles. However, seeing how well the Prabhas starrer did, especially in Hindi, they decided to dub it in multiple languages.
