Veteran actor Sathar, who primarily featured in Malayalam films, apart from starring in Tamil and Telugu, passed away on Tuesday. He was 67. As per reports, Sathar breathed his last at a hospital in Aluva, Kerala. The veteran actor reportedly passed away after suffering from a lung-related disease. He was under treatment for the same for three months, as per reports. His mortal remains were taken to Kadungalloor and he is set to be laid to rest at the Juma Masjid on Tuesday evening.
Career
Sathar was also born in Kadungalloor near Aluva in 1952. Sathar is said to have acted in more than 100 films in a career spanning over four decades. Sathar had shot to fame with ‘Bharyaye Aavashyamundu’, a movie directed by M. Krishnan Nair. ‘Anaavaranam’, directed by Vincent Master that released next year, was among his prominent works early on as a lead actor.
However, a flurry of roles in negative shades, later on, is what brought Sathar massive popularity and acclaim. One of these films was ‘Sarapanjaram’. A lot of these ventures featured him as an antagonist opposite iconic actor Jayan. ‘Ajnjana Theerangal’, ‘Neelathamara’, ‘Ee Nadu’, ‘Beena’ were some of his other popular films. He also turned producer later on, associating with three films, including ‘Kambolan’ in 1994.
Sathar didn’t feature in too many films since the turn of the millennium. ‘22 Female Kottayam’ in 2012, ‘Natholi Cheriya Meenalla’ in 2013, ‘Parayaan Baakki Vechathu’ and ‘Manglish’ in 2014 and ‘Onnum Onnum Moonu’ in 2015 were some of his last known works.
As per reports, Sathar will posthumously feature in a film named ‘Avarum Ivarum.’ ‘Mayil’ and ‘Soundaryame Varuga Varuga’ were some of the Tamil films he featured in, apart from Telugu films.
The actor was married to his co-star Jayabharathy, popular during that era, in 1979. However, they separated later. Their son Krish J. Sathar has featured in films like Mohanlal’s ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’.
Tribute
Malayalam star and ‘Lucifer’ director Prithviraj Sukurmaran was among those who expressed their grief on the passing of the actor. The ‘Brother’s Day’ star shared a snap of Sathar on social media and captioned it, “Rest in peace sir. Condolences.”
