Malayalam actress and her driver arrested for peddling drugs in Kochi

The Malayalam actress was arrested from the basement of the Kakkanad flat at DD Golden Gate in Palachuvadu while her driver was handing over the drug to her.

Malayalam actress and her driver arrested for peddling drugs in Kochi

Malayalam actress Aswathy Babu was arrested in Kochi for allegedly peddling drugs, according to multiple reports. Her driver Binoy Abraham too was arrested.

The news was confirmed by an official at the Thrikkakkara police station. The official stated the duo were taken into custody by the Thrikkakkara police at 1.45 am from the basement of the Kakkanad flat at DD Golden Gate in Palachuvadu while Binoy was handing over the drug to her. They were allegedly waiting to pass on the drug MDMA to a customer.  

The MDMA, also known as ecstacy, is a popular party drug that impacts mood and perceptions. Reports claimed that the duo possessed 15 grams of the drug which is banned and even possession of 2 mg is considered illegal. 

The police reportedly said that they landed at the venue on a tip-off. It is alleged that the residents of her locality complained about the sale of drugs and the regular parties at her house.  

The case has been registered on charges of possession and sale of synthetic drugs according to Section 22 (B) of the NDPS Act. The police has begun the investigations to find out more details. Ashwathy is 22 years old and from hiruvananthapuram and has featured in minor roles on TV and in movies and is also a model. Binoy is 38 years old and from Ernakulam. 

The Senior Inspector of the Thrikkakkara police station was quoted as saying that their raid late on Sunday was after scrutinising the situation for the past few days since they got information about it. The drug was reportedly bought from Bengaluru and the police is on the lookout for the supplier. Reports claimed that the duo would supply the drugs to the organisers of the parties. They would allegedly transport the banned drugs in luxury cars. Apart from the possession from the actress, no other drugs were found in the raid.

It is being reported that Ashwaty’s brother was also arrested previously for growing ganja plants.
