Not the first time:
Back in July, Rahul Bose got a taste of unreasonable pricing at a high-end luxury hotel in Chandigarh. Bizarrely, Bose was charged Rs. 442 for two bananas after which he was left baffled. However, after the tweet went viral, the Excise and Taxation Department sent a three-member team and seized all records in connection with the exorbitant GST rates charged by the hotel.

Luxury hotel fined:
Reportedly, the City Deputy Commissioner and the Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar ordered a probe into the matter after which the team paid a visit to the hotel. The officials have stated that it is not only a case of 'illegal and exorbitant charge of GST' but it is also a violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
After the incident went viral, the luxury hotel has been fined Rs 25,000 for violation of Section 11 of CGST, which is illegal collection of tax on an exempted item.
