1. Bhoot (2003)
Made by Ram Gopal Varma, Bhoot has several scary moments that give you goosebumps throughout the film. This is one of his last horror films, after which the director went on to create movies like AAG. The plot revolves around a couple who shifts into a haunted flat and drives the wife (Urmila) mad. One of the finest films in the history of the horror genre in Bollywood, Bhoot features Urmila Mantodkar, Ajay Devgn and Fardeen Khan in the lead roles.
2. Raaz (2002)
Helmed by Vikram Bhatt, the first instalment of the Raaz series stars Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea in lead roles. This film is the unofficial adaptation of Michelle Pfeiffer’s What Lies Beneath. Raaz received critical acclamation for its unique storyline and commendable performance of Bipasha. Furthermore, the film’s album was a chartbuster with its songs including Aapke Pyaar Mein and Jo Bhi Kasmein Khai Thi being praised internationally.
3. Horror Story (2013)
Horror Story revolves around a group of youngsters who decided to spend a night at a haunted hotel. Gradually, things started to become frightening and turned out to be uglier than imagined. The chilling experience of friends dying one by one will make you jump off your seats. Helmed by Vikram Bhatt, the dramatic horror movie will give you heebie-jeebies.
4. Mahal (1949)
Directed by Kamal Amrohi, Mahal is considered as the first Bollywood reincarnation film. The director launched renowned playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and actor Madhubala with this horror movie. Mahal might scare you, as it may have your father and even grandfather out of their wits. The movie made into the list of must-watch films of that time.
5. Bees Saal Baad (1962)
Loosely based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous book The Hound of the Baskervilles, Bees Saal Baad stars Mithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Om Prakash, Amjad Khan, and Vinod Mehra in prominent roles. Helmed by Rajkumar Kohli, Bees Saal Baad will make you quake in the boots with the portrayal of a mysterious lady tip-toeing during midnight. Still creeping out the nation, Bees Saal Baad was the highest grosser of its time.
