The ‘Man vs Wild’ episode featuring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned out to be a record-breaking collaboration. The Bear Grylls-hosted show has gone on to become the highest-trending TV event in the world, achieving 3.6 billion Twitter impressions. The magnitude of this statistic can be gauged by the fact that it was more than the extremely popular American football tournament Super Bowl earlier this year.

Bear Grylls exulted over the special episode going on to become the most trending televised event, writing that it was ‘Officially the world’s most trending televised event!’ with 3.6 BILLION impressions!’ while adding that it had beaten ‘Super Bowl 53’ which had 3.4 billion social impressions. He even conveyed his gratitude to all who had watched the episode.

The fact that PM Modi's 'Man vs Wild' beat ‘Super Bowl’, considered to be among the most-watched televised events in the world, shows that this was not a small feat.

While the statistics to the number of people who watched the ‘Man vs Wild’ episode featuring Bear Grylls is yet to be announced, Twitter becomes a reliable source to see how much interest the event generated on social media.

Actual viewership and Twitter impressions are two different factors and the two can’t be compared. But to know what 3.6 billion means, one can look at the statistics of mammoth global events like Football World Cup 2018 or Olympics 2016 and Olympics 2012. The Olympics in London and Rio de Janerio had got 3.6 billion views, the World Cup in Russia had got 3.5 billion viewers.  The point to note is that most of these events lasted for close to a month while ‘Man vs Wild’ was a single event.

On the other hand, India vs Pakistan semi-final in 2010 and their match this year was watched by 1 billion people both the times. The entire Cricket World Cup 2019 across all platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook had collected 3.5 billion views and that too over the course of its close to 45-day run.

As far as TV viewership is concerned, the recent ‘Game of Thrones’ finale premiere was watched by 13.9 million people. Meanwhile, ‘M*A*S*H’ in 1983 is reported to be the most-watched TV series finale of all time with 105.9 million viewers.

Though the statistics are on different criteria, it gives a massive indication of the reach of the PM's 'Man vs Wild' episode.
