Oscars 2024: 8 South Asian talents vying for Academy Award in various categories
The Academy will announce all final nominations for all categories on January 23, with the Oscar ceremony on March 10.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday announced the shortlists in 10 categories for the upcoming 96th Oscars. The list includes a number of South Asian talents who will be vying for the coveted global honour when the red carpet rolls at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10.
The Monk And The Gun by Pawo Choyning Dorji is representing Bhutan for Best International Feature. The film is about an American who travels to Bhutan in search of treasure
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been nominated in Best Visual Effects, Best Music (Original Score), and Best Original Song. In the movie, Karan Soni voices Pavitr Prabhakar.
To Kill A Tiger from Nisha Pahuja is about a Jharkhand family who fights for justice for their child after sexual assault. It has been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category.
Last Song From Kabul is about orphaned girls whose musical school was closed in Afghanistan. For the film, Kevin Macdonald and Ruhi Hamid have been nominated in the Best Documentary Short category.
Yellow by Elham Ehsas is about a woman who walks into a chadari store in Kabul to buy her first full-body veil. The movie has been nominated in the Best Live Action Short category.
Between Earth And Sky featuring Nalini Nadkarni is about an ecologist who survived a fall from a free and must research disturbances in rainforest life. It has been nominated for Best Documentary Short.
The After has been nominated in the Best Live Action Short category. It is about a grieving rideshare driver. The movie co-stars Nikesh Patel.
Bienvenidos A Los Angeles, co-starring Rashmi Rustagi, has been nominated for Best Live Action Short. It is about a Nigerian single mother fighting for a path to citizenship.
