12th Fail teaser: Vikrant Massey features as an anxious UPSC aspirant

The makers of 12th Fail dropped the first teaser of the movie on August 10 (Thursday). The movie is the ninth feature directorial of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role. It is slated to hit the OTT space in October.

• The teaser for 12th Fail will be attached to Gadar 2, when the latter gets released on Friday.
• Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s last directorial was the 2020 film Shikara.
• Chopra has also produced films like 3 idiots, Sanju and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

What does the teaser show?

The teaser for 12th Fail captures the extremely chaotic and rigorous atmosphere in which UPSC students prepare for their examinations, while competing with each other. The film was reportedly shot on actual locations with real students, which shows in the promotional clip.

According to producer Zee Studio, “12th Fail is an authentic portrayal of the lives and struggles of UPSC students.” It further described the film as "a saga of grit, integrity and determination which reflects the truth of a million Indians”. The same was echoed in the teaser.

12th Fail is inspired by Anurag Pathak's best-selling novel of the same title and is on the true story of IPS Officers Manoj Kumar Sharma and Shraddha Joshi. 

Vidhu Vinod Chopra talks of the film

Talking about 12th Fail, Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, “This film stands as a tribute to the honest officers who safeguard our Constitution and the countless students who aspire to follow in their footsteps.”

The 1942: A Love Story director added that if the film manages to "inspire even some individuals" to work towards "honesty and excellence," he would deem his effort a success. Meanwhile, Shariq Patel, Chief Business Officer, Zee Studios, added, "The film portrays students' challenges and enduring friendships, showcasing the resilience and authenticity of student life.”

As per a press release, 12th Fail also pays tribute to those who view failures as an opportunity to restart and features a high-octane anthem called Restart, composed by Shantanu Moitra. The said song has two versions, one written by Swanand Kirkire and the other by Raftaar.

12th Fail, which marks the first collaboration between Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Zee Studios, is set to release on October 27. Besides Hindi, it will also release its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
