Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone is all set to star alongside husband Ranveer Singh in upcoming sports drama 83. While Ranveer is essaying the role of former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in the film which is based on India's first world cup win in 1983, Deepika will take up the role of his wife Romi Dev.
Ranveer's first look as the legendary cricketer has been unveiled by the makers, but Deepika's look as Romi is still kept under wraps. Recent media reports state that she will be donning short hair in the film.
While Romi and Deepika Padukone have previously met each other several times, it's reported that the first time Romi saw the actress sport her on-screen avatar, she was completely taken by surprise. She was amazed to see Deepika's transformation into the character for the film. Confirming the same, producer Vishnu Induri reportedly said that when Romi saw Deepika on the set, she said that she was 'looking at a mirror image of herself, from 20 years ago'.
He further revealed how Deepika would carefully study Romi's behavior whenever they met, to bring the traits alive on camera. Reports further stated that the makers are planning to unveil Deepika's look in the film's teaser.
Deepika Padukone on her role in '83'
'83' marks Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's fourth on-screen collaboration after 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela', 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Padmaavat'. The actress in a previous interview had spoken about her role in the film and said that she is overwhelmed to be a part of the project.
As per PTI, talking about her role, she said, "Kabir thought of me for the film. It's a very small role but a very special role because I feel like the role of a spouse or family is not always given enough credit."
"When you look at athletes and when they win and perform on an international stage and platform, the family gets very little recognition. Keeping that in mind I wanted to do the film," she added.
Recently, the cast and crew got together to celebrate the film's wrap. Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is set to hit the theaters on April 10, 2020.
