Acclaimed Director Kalpana Lajmi Passes Away At The Age of 61

Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi breathed her last on Sunday, September 23. The acclaimed director passed away at 4:30 am. The last rites will be held at the Oshiwara Crematorium at 12:30 pm on Sunday, September 23.

Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi breathed her last on Sunday, September 23. The acclaimed director passed away at 4:30 am. 
Lajmi was suffering from kidney Cancer. 

Kalpana is known for her women-centric films like 'Rudaali', 'Darmiyaan', and 'Daman' to name a few. As per reports, the acclaimed filmmaker was diagnosed with a tumour in her Kidney in 2015. Lajmi was also facing a financial crisis, and most of the eminent personalities from the film fraternity had come to her rescue and provided support.

As per reports, Kalpana was undergoing dialysis for a couple of years and had reportedly said that her kidneys had failed but she hadn't.

Kalpana made her debut as a feature film director with her film 'Ek Pal. Her biography on Indian playback singer Bhupen Hazarika, 'Bhupen Hazarika: As I Knew Him' was launched earlier in September. 

Several eminent Bollywood personalities including Soni Razdan, Raveena Tandon, and Huma Qureshi, to name a few took to Twitter to pay their last respects to the uber-talented filmmaker.

Soni Razdan:

Soni Razdan took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Kalpana Lajmi and said, "I will miss her strong energetic voice, her indefatigable drive to create, her laughter that was always so full of real joy and her wonderful sense of humour. Most of all I will miss my movie partner. Cant believe you’re gone Kalpana. RIP sweetheart". 

Raveena Tandon: 

Raveena Tandon took to Twitter to pay her last respects to the filmmaker and posted a picture from the sets of 'Daman', captioning the post as "You will be missed Kalpanaji.Was not your time to go..but may your heart now be at peace. . Those days while shooting Daman will be a treasured memory. #KalpanaLajmi Om Shanti. "

Huma Qureshi:

Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi paid her last respects to the acclaimed filmmaker as she put up a post on Twitter saying, "Deeply saddened... at around 4:30 am today morning #KalpanaLajmi passed away .. May she rest in peace."

The filmmaker is survived by her mother Lalita Lajmi who is a renowned painter.
