Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Details of her upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is soon to make a comeback with 'Ponniyin Selvan' a movie based on the Tamil historical novel. The movie will be directed by Mani Ratnam.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will soon make a comeback to the silver screen with Mani Ratnam’s next. The movie will be based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular historical Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan. According to reports, Aishwarya has confirmed that she will be playing the lead role in the movie. The movie is anticipated by her fans since announcement.

The movie is produced by Lyca productions and is slated to release by next year. However, the official cast and date of release is not out yet. According to the reports, the movie might feature stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Anushka Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Amala Paul in pivotal roles.
The Fanney Khan actor has worked previously with the director Mani Ratnam for various projects which include Iruvar, Guru and Raavan. The movie is an adaptation of a Tamil novel with the same name. According to the reports, The Guru actor might be playing double roles which will include role of Nandini and her mother, Mandakini Devi in the period drama.
According to the novel, Mandakini Devi was a silent queen, while Nandini is the wife of the treasurer Periya Pazhavettaraiyar. Nandini is the crucial character of the movie as she will be the key antagonist of the whole story. According to the reports, the Telugu film actor Mohan Babu will be seen playing the role of Periya Pazhavettaraiyar.

According to the novel, Nandini was a manipulative woman who plots the downfall of the Chola Kingdom. There are rumours that the movie will focus more on Nandini’s character, but no official confirmation is out yet. In an interview with the leading daily, Aishwarya confirmed that her role in the movie is powerful and promising. Aishwarya also mentioned that the first film Iruvar where she worked with Mani Ratnam for the first time appreciated his professional and familiar work environment with him.
Aishwarya will also star in the remake of the 1964 classic Woh Kaun Thi? that will be produced by KriArj entertainment. The actor's other project includes Jasmine: Story of a Leased Womb that will be directed by Shree Narayan Singh.
