Family

Kiara Advani born on July 31, 1992, to Jagdeep and Genevieve Advani. Her father was a Sindhi business and her mother was a teacher. She is elder of two children as she has a younger brother, Mishaal. Kiara is related to several celebrities via her maternal family. Actors Saeed Jaffrey and Ashok Kumar are her great-uncle and step-great-grandfather, respectively. Model Shaheen Jaffrey and famous actor Juhi Chawla are her aunts.

Name change

Reportedly, her real name is Alia Advani, but she changed her first name to Kiara before her first film. In an interview with a leading daily, Kiara said that her name ‘Kiara’ was inspired by the movie Anjaana Anjaani, in which Priyanka Chopra plays the role of Kiara. In an interview with a news portal, she said that it was Salman Khan who suggested she change her name from Alia, as there was already an actor with the same name, referring to Alia Bhatt.

Early career

Kiara Advani made her acting debut in 2014 released Fugly. Directed by Kabir Sadanand it was a comedy-drama film. It also stars Mohit Marwah, Arfi Lamba, Vijender Singh, and Jimmy Sheirgill. The movie did not perform well at the box office but her performance was appreciated. Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar appeared for a song in the film. She was then seen in Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. It was based on the life of former Indian Cricket Team captain Mahinder Singh Dhoni. Kiara played the role of Sakshi Dhoni, wife of MS Dhoni. She received wide recognition with the film. It was a super hit at the box office.

Breakthrough

The year 2018 was commercially and critically successful period for Kiara’s career. She was seen in Netflix’s anthology film Lust Stories. The movie consists of four stories and Kiara appeared in the last one. Her role was opposite Vicky Kaushal and it was directed by Karan Johar. Later, Kiara made her Telugu cinema debut in Bharat Ane Nenu. Helmed by Koratala Siva, it was political thriller starring Mahesh Babu in lead. Her portrayal of Vasumati in the film was praised and the movie was a success at the box office.

Recent films

Kiara Advani was seen in two films till now in 2019. She first appeared in multi-starrer film Kalank, in a short role as Lajjo. Her second film was Kabir Singh, opposite Shahid Kapoor. The movie was a blockbuster at the box office. Kiara’s role as Preeti made her a household name. She will now be seen next in Good Newwz, along with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in December 2019.
