Amitabh Bachchan is a Bollywood legend who has been the biggest name in the industry for decades. He is also the host for the popular Indian television reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which is based on the British Show, Who wants to be a Millionaire? In fact, he has been the show’s host since its inception in 2000. The show is now in its 11th season. In an interview, Amitabh spoke about how he went on to become the host for the popular show.
Amitabh was advised against TV
In the interview, Amitabh Bachchan discussed how and why he chose to become the host for Kaun Banega Crorepati. He said that his association with the show was more of a coincidence than an intentional decision. He was approached with the idea for the show by the channel. His family and colleagues initially advised him to not take up the offer and to avoid television. However, Amitabh felt that it was something new and so he wanted to give it a try.
How he decided to become KBC’s host
He asked the people behind the show to tell him how it would work and what the process was. As KBC was based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, the production and crew decided to take Amitabh to England where the original show was hosted. There he witnessed how the reality show was conducted and liked what he saw. He told the producers of KBC that he would work as the host for their show if they manage to capture the original one’s atmosphere and set design. The crew for KBC did just that and Amitabh Bachchan then decided to take up the offer and became the first host for Kaun Banega Crorepati.
