Bhai Dooj 2024: Since time immemorial, Bollywood movies have explored the relationship between siblings. Be it bitter-sweet like in Fiza or unconditional love like Jigra, Hindi films have often showcased the dynamic bond on the big screens. This year Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on November 3. On the day dedicated to the loving bond between brothers and sisters, take a look at the movies that celebrated the relationship.
Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina's Jigra
The most recent Bollywood movie that showcased the sibling bond was Vasan Bala's Jigra which featured Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina. Released a day before Dussehra, the film narrated the tale of Satya (Alia Bhatt) who is ready to go to all lengths to get justice when her brother Ankur is wronged. The film shows Alia's character is fearless and out for blood as her brother is wrongfully detained in a foreign country. The movie is not available on OTT yet but is still running in select theatres.
Friday Night Plan
Released on September 1, 2023, Friday Night Plan is a perfect watch for siblings. The film features Babil Khan and Aditya Jain as brothers and Juhi Chawla as their mother. When their mother has to leave the city overnight for urgent business-related work, the boys wreak havoc. However, the brothers navigate through a series of problems in the night to overcome the personal hurdles in their relationship while keeping their mother in the dark. The movie is available on Netflix.
Released in 2022, the Akshay Kumar starrer failed to impress the audience on the big screens. However, the film explores the bond shared by a brother with his 4 sisters. The protagonist goes to lengths to make sure that of his sister's happiness.
Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh in Dil Dhadakne Do
Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do was a perfect depiction of family dynamics. The film stresses that family dynamics can be complicated and Priyanka-Ranveer play a brother-sister duo who manoeuvre through their personal issues while dealing with larger family problems. The film shows the sibling duo having each other's back and putting up a united front in front of their parents. Released in 2015, Dil Dhadakne Do is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Hrithik Roshan 's Agneepath
Even though Hrithik Roshan-Priyanka Chopra starrer Agneepath is touted as an action-romance film, Agneepath's subplot of sibling bond is noteworthy. Vijay and Shiksha share a deep bond in the film that gives rise to the protagonist's reasons for vengeance and angst. The 2012 movie can be streamed online on Amazon Prime Video.
Aditi and Ajay in Jaane Tu… Yaa Jaane Na
Imran Khan-Genelia D Souza's coming-of-age movie remains one of Bollywood's classics to date. Though the film focuses on the friends-to-lovers trope between Jai and Aditi, it also delicately handles the subject of the sibling bond between Aditi and Ajay. Prateik Babbar plays the neglected, introverted brother of D Souza, who picks fights with her every now and then just to garner her attention. It is a conversation with her brother that makes Aditi realise what she truly wants. The 2008 film is available on Amazon Prime Video.
My Brother….Nikhil
The 2005 film directed by Onir beautifully portrays the sibling bond. The film features Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla as siblings. My Brother…Nikhil explores themes of love and acceptance in the backdrop of a supporting sibling. The movie is streaming online on Prime Video.
Karishma Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan in Fiza
Released in 2000 Fiza deals with the subject of terrorism in the backdrop of a brother-sister relationship. Karisma Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan essay the role of siblings in the film. The emotional movie narrates the heights at which a sister can go when she finds out about her brother's wrongdoings.
