Jahangir Mahal, built in the 17th century by Bundela ruler Veer Singh Deo, was designed to commemorate Emperor Jahangir's first visit to Orchha. The palace is entered through a traditional, visually striking gate, with the east-facing wall adorned in turquoise tiles. Two stone elephants stand at the entrance, along with a bell that signifies the arrival of the king.

The queen's tragic past is said to involve imprisonment by her cruel husband in Raja Mahal. Her anguished cries are believed to still echo through the halls. It is written that she managed to escape but was captured and killed near Jahangir Palace. The queen’s chamber once featured vibrant murals and frescoes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, their colours thought to have once glowed. In the king's chamber, a guide pointed out a narrow corridor that circled the room. It was believed to be for the dancing girls, who would move around the corridor, their jingling anklets creating a melody to wake the king. This passage leads to the Sheesh Mahal, which is now a hotel.

Kartik said, “Ek badi haveli thi, andhera tha, pura atmosphere hi darawna sa tha. Hamara shot lene se pehle hi, main to kissi se baat hi kar raha tha, ki achanak se kisi ne mujhe peeche se scratch kar diya! Triptii ko to laga ki main koi improvise ya acting kar raha tha shot ke pehle par tab maine bola ki, ‘Nahi yaar mujhe sach main kuch scratch kiya hain.’ Par hamare peeche koi tha bhi nahi tha…” (It was a big mansion, it was dark, and the whole atmosphere was scary. Before taking our shot, I was talking to someone, when suddenly someone scratched me from the back! Triptii thought I was improvising or acting; but before the shot, I said, ‘Someone had actually scratched me.’ But in reality, no one was there behind us…)
