The world is waking up to climate change. Several known names too are joining the battle against it. Bhumi Pednekar was one of them, who took to the streets, raised slogans, held placards and interacted with those who care about the environment at a recent event. The actor urged the citizens to ‘stand up and take action now.’
Bhumi Pednekar joined one such movement as a ‘Climate Warrior’ at an event at Bandstand, Bandra in Mumbai on September 27 this year. 2500 people marched in silent protest to raise awareness about the dangers of climate change.” People care, this is our home and we have to preserve it. Rise up for climate justice,” Bhumi was heard saying in the video.
Recently, several Bollywood stars like Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt had hailed Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg for her powerful speech at the UN Climate Action Summit. And Bhumi too invoked Greta when she took to the stage. She said, “We need justice now. Change needs to happen now. We need climate action now. I want to thank Greta Thunberg for starting this global movement, inspiring so many of us. This is where we live, we need to secure our future generations to come. We need to co-exist with nature.”
Bhumi is even seen asking of the attendees of the event, what made them take up this cause on a big level. One of them shared how he had come all the way from his village, since the actions at the metro cities affected the villages. “Most of Mumbai is here in spirit and it just so motivating,” the Saand Ki Aankh star is heard saying. The actor also shared, “This has been such an inspiring, motivating day. We have over 1000 people, and there are over 2000 strikes and protests happening around the globe as we speak today.”
"Each one of us have to save our planet, our environment. We are all #ClimateWarriors and I salute the commendable work that Fridays For Future has been doing to propagate the message of climate conservation. I recently participated in the peaceful strike that was hosted by them to stand up for climate justice and it was an eye opening experience for me to hear how socially conscious our next generation is and how fiercely protective they are about their future and environment. It is our responsibility to leave a better planet to our future generations and we have to make this happen. Let’s STAND UP and take action NOW!! #ClimateWarrior @fridaysforfuture @fridaysforfuturemumbai," she captioned the video.
