Bihar floods: Big B donates Rs 51 lakh to Bihar CM's Relief Fund
Amitabh Bachchan donated Rs 51 lakh to the Bihar Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The amount was given to help reestablish the flood-affected regions of the state.
Iconic Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has donated Rs 51 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in Bihar. The senior actor was moved by reports of the floods that have ravaged more than a dozen districts of the state.
A Rs 51 lakh cheque, along with a letter addressed to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was handed over to Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi by the representative of the Bachchan family, Vijay Nath Mishra in Bihar.
In the letter, Bachchan who has this year been chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award - wrote, "I am deeply stricken by the natural calamity that has hit the state of Bihar. My deepest condolences and sympathies to all whose lives have been affected in the recent flood."
"Albeit in a small way, I extend my helping hand in the restoration of human life in Bihar", Bachchan wrote in the type-written note in English to which he added a footnote in Hindi "we have publicized the contribution made to CM Relief Fund, Bihar in our TV show KBC".
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput had also made an appeal to his fans to donate to the Chief Minister's relief fund for helping the flood-affected people in the state.
Other actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi had also urged their followers to contribute towards the Chief Minister's relief fund.
Fogging work begins
Patna Municipal Corporation Officer has also started with the fogging process in the waterlogged areas. The fogging process is done to keep the vector-borne diseases at bay.
The officer, Saurav Kumar while talking to a news agency said, "The chemical is being sprayed to make the water odourless and destroy insects. The fogging will decrease the chances of spreading of bacteria."
Not just in Patna but other low-lying areas like Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Gardani Bagh, Dak Bungalow and SK Puri are also facing heavy water-logging issues due to heavy rainfall. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna and it's surrounding areas are likely to receive few spells of rainfall with thunderstorms and dust storms in the upcoming week.
After extremely heavy rainfall that resulted in floods in the state, the death count has gone up to 73, with nine people reported injured, according to the Bihar state officials.
