Bollywood: Miss India pageant winners who made it big in the industry

Beauty pageants are sometimes considered ticket to Bollywood. Many actors in the glamour industry had been a beauty pageant contender in the past. According to reports, Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar will be the newest member from the world of pageant to enter Bollywood. Many such Miss Indias have been a part of the industry for a long time. Here is a list of some of the Bollywood actors who walked the ramp before featuring on the silver screen.

Priyanka Chopra

The Sky is Pink star who is now a global icon won the Miss India crown in the year 2000. She was then crowned Miss World 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty—Asia & Oceania at the Millennium Dome in London in the same year. After her pageant wins, she got an offer from Bollywood and after that, there was no looking back.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen was just 18-years-old when she won the Miss India crown in the year 1994. She also won the Miss World crown for India in the Philippines that same year. Sushmita Sen is the first woman from India to win the Miss Universe crown.

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai won the Miss India crown in the year 1994. She was 24-year-old when she represented India at the prestigious Miss World pageant. She won the Miss World title that year and was declared the Most Beautiful Miss World of All Time in the year 2000.

Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza won the Miss India crown in the year 2000. She represented India at the prestigious Miss Asia Pacific beauty pageant and won the title for India. She mentored the Miss India contestants this year and shared insights with them to win the coveted crown. She made her Bollywood debut with the 2001 film Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein opposite R Madhavan.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta won the Miss India crown in the year 2000 and was crowned Miss Universe. In a rare triple victory, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza won their respective Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific titles in the same year. Lara Dutta made her debut with the Tamil film, Arasatchi in 2002 and made her Bollywood debut with Andaaz in 2003.
