Dia Mirza’s work towards various environmental causes over the years was recognised by the United Nations, who appointed her as the UN Environmental Goodwill Ambassador for India in 2017. The actor was thus unhappy about one aspect of the ‘Bottle Cap Challenge’ that is going viral on social media. The ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ star didn’t mince words to state that she was ‘sickened’ with the use of plastic bottles that most were using to perform the challenge. The 37-year-old highlighted the need to wake up to the importance of discontinuing single-use plastics since less than 1 percent of such bottles are recycled on a global level.

On Saturday, Dia took to Twitter and wrote, “So the #BottleCapChallenge that is trending sickens me for one reason. Most being done with those darn plastic bottles. How will we ever wake up to the reality that we need to discontinue the use of single use plastics? Less than 1% plastic bottles are recycled globally.”

The actress’ post got mixed reviews on social media, some people trolling her by naming other plastic-based items that she might be using, while some praised her for it.

Many even slammed Akshay Kumar, who was the one who popularised it in B-Town.

However, Akshay had seemingly used a glass bottle for the same.

On the contrary, some like Tiger Shroff, Sushmita Sen and John Mayer had used plastic bottles.
