The recently-released Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal has created havoc at the box office. However, at the same time, the film has evoked extremely polarising responses from critics, audience as well as film fraternity. Some industry professionals have publicly condemned the film, while others have expressed their support of the film and the director. The latest to express their objection is Cinematographer Siddhartha Nuni.

Animal triggered me to no end: Captain Miller cinematographer

Nuni, who began his career in the film industry in 2008 as an assistant DOP, is the cinematographer for big upcoming projects like Captain Miller and Thalapathy 68. Taking to his Instagram stories, Nuni penned a long note about the film, expressing his critical opinions about the film and the director for ‘justifying toxic masculinity.’

Nuni wrote in his post, “I had watched ‘Animal’ yesterday and honestly the film had triggered me to no end. The films Nazi glorifying (wearing the swastika on the chest), justifying toxic masculinity with random alpha male theories, the no holds barred violence with no rule of law, marital rape, abusive relationships where the woman is relegated to be a mute bystander while the husband behaves like a brute.”

Animal’s success reflects our social condition, said Nuni

The cinematographer also particularly lambasted the director for the last visual of the film where Ranbir Kapoor’s character points the audience towards the crotch. He added, “That last shot was beyond redemption and abusive to the audience’s mind. The fact that this film collected so much money reflects the social condition of the country we live in?”

Meanwhile, amidst all the extreme reactions, Animal’s rampage at the boxoffice continues. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer collected 10 crores on day 13, taking its domestic boxoffice total to Rs. 468 crore nett.
