Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming movie Chhapaak is based on the real-life struggle of Laxmi Agarwal, who is the poster girl of acid attack survivors in India. The film will feature Deepika Padukone, who will play the lead role in the movie. It is for the first time when Meghna and Deepika will come together for Chhapaak. The shooting of the film has recently been wrapped up and it is set to release on January 10, 2020.
The resemblance between Deepika and Laxmi before the attack
In an interview with another entertainment portal, director Meghna Gulzar said that she was thinking about the film since after she made Talvar (2015), which was based on the Aarushi murder case. She said that she met Laxmi in 2016 and spent a year with her. Deepika was reportedly her first choice because she had seen pictures of how Laxmi looked like before the attack. She found an uncanny similarity between Deepika and Laxmi.
Meghna mentioned that earlier, she did not expect Deepika to say yes to the role. However, she was pleasantly surprised when Deepika agreed to do the film. The team recently wrapped up the shooting for the film. Meghna shared a series of pictures which feature the lead actors of the film. In the pictures, Deepika is seen in a salwar suit with mehndi on her hands. Vikrant is also seen along with Meghna and Deepika posing for the camera.
