CONFIRMED: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to reunite with Mani Ratnam after almost a decade, says she’s ‘overwhelmed’ to work with her ‘Guru’

It’s official! After almost a decade, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to collaborate once again with Mani Ratnam. The actress has confirmed that she will be working in the veteran filmmaker’s next, after intense speculation over it recently and expressed her delight to collaborate with her ‘Guru.’

It’s official! After almost a decade, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to collaborate once again with Mani Ratnam. The actress has confirmed that she will be working in the veteran filmmaker’s next, after intense speculation over it recently and expressed her delight to collaborate with her ‘Guru.’

Aishwarya made the revelation during a recent interview on the sidelines of her headline-grabbing appearance at Cannes recently. The actress stated that Mani Ratnam had not announced the film, but since there was talk about it already, she shared that she is indeed working with the director.

 The ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ star added that she will always be ‘thrilled, excited and overwhelmed, humbled’ to work with her ‘Guru’. She termed the collaboration as going ‘back to school.’ 

Speculation had been rife since the past few days about Aishwarya playing a negative role in the filmmaker’s next. He is reportedly planning a movie based on the novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan,’ an ambitious venture he’s been trying to make since some years now.   

Aishwarya is rumoured to be a playing the character of Nandhini, a scheming woman who manipulates her husband to destroy the Chola royal government. Telugu veteran Mohan Babu might play her husband’s role in the film.

Aishwarya had made her debut with Mani Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar’ opposite Mohanlal in 1997. She later worked with the director in ‘Guru’ alongside husband Abhishek Bachchan and the bilingual ‘Raavan’-’Raavanan.’

The actress was last seen in 'Fanney Khan' and is also set to work in 'Gulab  Jamun' opposite Abhishek, though reports claim the movie has been shelved.
