Deepika Padukone's Bollywood journey: Cocktail was the turning point
Deepika Padukone will be seen in Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak that is set to release in 2020. The actress has recently opened up on her Bollywood journey.

Deepika Padukone has recently wrapped up director Kabir Khan’s 83 along with husband Ranveer Singh. Ranveer will be seen as Kapil Dev, former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, whereas Deepika will be seen as his wife, Romi Devi. Deepika Padukone made her Bollywood with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om opposite 'King Khan,' Shah Rukh Khan. in 2007. The actress has recently opened up on her journey in Bollywood.

Deepika Padukone’s Bollywood journey
Deepika Padukone started her career with modelling. It was after two years that she was offered the lead role in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om. It is said that despite her father Prakash Padukone being a badminton champion, movies were not the first choice for Deepika. She is also an excellent badminton player. In an interview with a leading fashion publication, Deepika Padukone opened up about her path in the film industry. The actress said that although she was good in academics and sports, she decided to give films a try. “I think I just walked into the unknown. We didn't watch too many movies growing up, and most of my childhood went into school coursework and professional badminton. As a family, we led a very disciplined, structured life. Everything was planned. Cinema didn't feature too much, but whenever it did, it felt familiar. I always felt like this is what I was meant to do. And it all happened very quickly”, she told Harper’s Bazaar India. “Two years after I became a model, Farah [Khan] offered me Om Shanti Om. The rest of the journey, until a couple of years ago, was really about understanding, absorbing, and discovering Bollywood and myself, and making my mistakes along the way,” she added.

However, the actress feels that it took her five years to finally understand the medium. She believes that it all changed for her with Homi Adajania’s Cocktail (2012). While continuing to express, the Padmavat actress said, “I felt I finally understood what the medium really is, and the impact cinema can have on people and society. I began to get more comfortable with myself, and everything just started making sense to me. When you see the film fraternity as an outsider, you imagine it to be a certain way, and I was not fearful anymore.” On the work front, Deepika Padukone will next be seen in Chhapaak, which is slated to release in 2020.
