Dia Mirza in a recent tweet slammed the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) for their decision for hosting the T20I series between India and Bangladesh in Delhi. For the uninitiated, the board had recently announced that the first T20 will be held in Delhi beginning from 3rd November 2019. Drawing attention to the National capital's severely poor quality, she claimed that it is quite 'baffling' that the board has decided to go ahead with the match despite the AQI’s severe 412!. Using hashtags such as #MyRightToBreathe #BreatheLife, the actress further wrote, "This complete denial of the hazards of exposing ourselves to pollution is what cripples our ability to seek and implement swift solutions."

In an earlier interaction with a news agency, the new president of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly stated that the upcoming match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, and the rest of the matches will be held at Rajkot and Nagpur respectively.
The actress recently made headlines when she lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his initiative to ban single-use plastics. On PM’s drive against single-use plastic, Dia Mirza said, “It gives me a great amount of strength to know that a campaign that we ran to beat plastic pollution culminated into this tremendous commitment from our Prime Minister to weed out single-use plastic completely by 2022. And the fact that he reiterated this on Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti is going to be used as that big day to really weed out the plastics. I hope this initiative is translated into effective policy, because we need extended producer responsibility, we need better waste management infrastructure, because there is a lot of money in kachra (waste) and there is a lot of possibilities.”
