While Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Dream Girl’ is on its way to become one of the biggest hits of this year, the movie has now got a minor setback. A recreated version of the Marathi classic ‘Dhagala Lagli Kala’ featuring Dada Kondke from the film ‘Bot Lavin Tithe Gudgul’ has been removed from all digital mediums. The move was reportedly sparked by a case involving a copyright violation, in which Delhi High Court ordered the track be pulled down from the web.
Dream Girl
A recreated version of ‘Dhagala Lagli Kala’ was used as a promotional track for ‘Dream Girl’. The video had featured leads Ayushmann and Nushrat Bharucha, along with Riteish Deshmukh, as they are all dressed in Maharashtrian attires and dance in the rain. The track was recreated by Meet Bros, sung by Mika Singh and Jyotica Tangri and penned by Kumaar. The song had created buzz on social media, but the video is now showing as unavailable in the links that had embed the video.
Moreover, the video is also not showing up in the search on YouTube anymore. As per reports, the Delhi High Court ordered that song be pulled down after the music label Saregama, who apparently hold the rights of the original, filed a petition in the court. The song also doesn’t feature in the music jukebox of ‘Dream Girl’.
The song didn’t feature when Republic World reviewer watched the movie at the media screening, and it’s likely that it was used only as a promotional track. The court’s decision won’t affect the movie’s performance at the box office in that case. However, it could affect the digital prospects in terms of the music, video rights etc.
Not the first time
The song ‘Socha Hai’, a recreation of Kishore Kumar's ‘Keh Doon Tumhe’, starring Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta, for the film ‘Baadshaho’ was similarly pulled off digital mediums after court intervention.
