From the centre, you move to the left frame, it's very hurtful: Abhishek Bachchan opens up on low phase

It’s been a long time since Abhishek Bachchan delivered a solo hit. You need to go almost 12 years back to ‘Guru’, the last time he did so. Since then the actor featured in numerous hits, some blockbusters, like ‘Housefull 3', 'Happy New Year', ‘Dhoom 3’, 'Bol Bachchan', but none where he was ‘shouldering the pressure'. And the ‘Bluffmaster’ star admits that the transition from the ‘centre to left frame’ was ‘heartbreaking.’  

The actor opened up on the tough phase during his appearance on ‘Koffee with Karan’ alongside his sister Shweta Bachchan Nanda.  

Abhishek revealed that the two-year sabbatical post ‘Housefull 3’ that ended with ‘Manmarziyaan’ was an attempt at changing his approach towards his career. The ‘Dostana’ star claimed he was getting complacent doing films where the pressure was not on him but on his co-stars.

Despite enjoying his work in the movies which earned a lot of money for the makers and also for himself, it was ‘weird’ for him as he didn’t ‘come into the industry to stand behind anyone.’ He admitted it was ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘hurtful’ to move from centre to left frame in the ‘brutal industry’ was ‘difficult to digest.’   

"It's tricky, it’s not the pressure of what was happening...it was more about how I was approaching my work which I thought was incorrect. I was becoming very complacent and unconformable. I was part of huge films, huge budgets, huge stars, huge collections, everything was hunky-dory, I had no pressure as I was standing by the side or behind somebody else who was shouldering all the pressure, and I was making lots of money, those films were making lots of money, it became very easy. With all respect to my all co-stars, I didn’t come to the industry to stand behind anyone," Abhishek said. 

"Its very weird... I say this with all the respect to my co-stars, I genuinely enjoyed those films but it is heartbreaking for any actor who has been once centre staged to be on the side... it is difficult to digest. That hurt, that humiliation is important. The industry is the brutal place. No one is entitled to say that I’m who I’m and I deserve this. Everyone has to earn it. You have to earn your place. From the centre you move to the left frame, it's very hurtful." 

After 'Manmarziyaan', Abhishek's next film will be 'Gulab Jamun' opposite wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Recently, he had lent his voice for 'Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle' and also announced about featuring in the second season of series 'Breathe.'  Reports of him starring in 'Indian 2' have also surfaced of late.
