Gadar 2: Anil Sharma shares interesting anecdote about Sunny Deol's hammer scene

Gadar 2 trailer, released on July 26, has created quite a buzz among the audience. The much-anticipated movie stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in lead roles with Anil Sharma back in the director’s chair. During the trailer launch, Sharma spilled the beans on Deol’s performance, particularly in the viral hammer scene in the film.

• Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel will reprise their respective roles of Tara Singh and Sakeena in Gadar 2. 
• The movie will release on August 11, the same day as Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2. 
• The film is a sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. 

Anil Sharma hails Sunny Deol's performance 

To recall, in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Sunny Deol's Tara Singh uprooted a handpump in an intense action sequence making it an iconic scene in cinematic history. For the sequel, the actor took on his enemies with a hammer as seen in one of the scenes as in the Gadar 2 trailer. Talking of that at the trailer launch event, Anil Sharma said that how Deol's performance left them astonished.

Sharma said that he asked his team members, “Jo Bollywood aur South ke bade bade hero hai, woh yeh scene karte toh kaise lagta? (How would it look if the superstars from Bollywood and South cinema did this scene?”).

And their reply, according to Sharma, was, “Woh log karte toh bhi accha lagta lekin jaise Sunny sir lag rahe hai, waisa koi nahin lagta’! (It would have looked good even if they did it, but no one can do it as Sunny sir does it).” After the director finished, the audience gave a thunderous response.

Sunny Deol wasn't sure of Gadar 2?

At the trailer launch event, the director also revealed that it was not an easy task to get Sunny Deol on board the new film. He divulged that the actor asked him the need for a seuqel and that Gadar is already a legacy, so naturally he had his apprehensions about the film.

Sharma shared that in order to convince Deol, he told the actor, “poora Hindustan chahta hai ki Gadar 2 banein. Humein logon ki toh sunni chahiye (The entire country wants Gadar 2 to be made. We should listen to them).” But when Sunny heard the script, he was moved to tears and that started the Gadar 2 journey.
