Ghee Happy: Netflix announces new animated series on Hindu deities

In a move to expand its base in India, Netflix has announced an upcoming animation series, Ghee Happy. The series will revolve around Hindu deities like Kali, Krishna, Saraswati and Ganesha. The show will showcase a younger version of these deities. The show will also focus on how they discover their powers in a daycare for deities called Ghee Happy.
About Ghee Happy
The animated series is being written and directed by Sanjay Patel. Patel is well known for his work in Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, Cars, Toy Story 2 and The Incredibles series. He also helmed the short animated film Sanjay’s Super Team. It was also nominated for the Best Animated Short Film at the 88th Academy Awards. The series aims to provide an outlet for kids to learn more about the culture of India.

Talking about the new venture to a leading news channel, Sanjay said that he is very excited and lucky to be a part of a series that introduces Hindu deities to families around the world. He also expressed how it is important to let the world know about the various aspects of South Asian culture in mainstream global media.
Talking about his own experience of being an Indian who grew up in the USA, Sanjay Patel expressed that it is important for kids belonging from such cultural backgrounds to know that they are not alone. Patel who is now a father himself has taken it as a personal call to bring diverse stories to public platforms. Sanjay Patel also expressed his gratitude for letting him travel to India for the research of the series. Ghee Happy will be produced at Netflix’s animation studio in Hollywood. The only bad news for viewers awaiting the series is that it will take a few years to be available on the OTT platform.
