Ghoomer: Saiyami Kher says paralympian Ekta Bhyan helped her prepare for the role

Saiyami Kher is all set to headline the upcoming film Ghoomer. The movie also stars Abhishek Bachchan as the co-lead. He will play the coach of Saiyami’s character in the film. At the trailer launch event, the actress gave an insight into her character and talked about her prep for the sports drama.

Saiyami Kher says she needed to work on emotional more than physical challenges 

The Ghoomer trailer launch event took place in Mumbai on August 4. The actors spoke about their characters and gave insights into the film. Saiyami spoke about getting into the skin of a paraplegic sportsperson.

Saiyami said she was “more focused on mapping the emotional journey rather than focusing on the physical challenges of playing the character”. She also shared that she spoke to and sought guidance from para-athletes like Ekta Bhyan, a javelin thrower. Recalling the time, Saiyami said, “I spent a lot of time with her. One thing she said to me was that you should ask whatever you want because the one thing they don't need is sympathy. They need empathy, but they're athletes, so they don't want to be looked at in any other way."

Saiyami Kher on her cricket prowess 

In the movie, Saiyami plays the role of a cricketer who strives to bring glory to India even after losing her right hand in an accident. At the trailer launch event, she revealed that she went through extensive training to learn cricket. She also claimed that at the end of her training, she is confident enough to challenge her guy friends to a match.

On Saiyami Kher’s remark, director R Balki quipped that she could easily take on Virat Kohli in a match. On this the actress replied, “Yeh Balki sir ne bol diya. Virat Kohli is the best cricketer right now. Unko out kar paayi toh Ghoomer ki chandi ho jaayegi.” Her co-star in the film, Abhishek Bachchan also showered praises on her cricketing skills and said, “I dare anyone to face six balls from Saiyami and not get out."
