The trailer for Good Newwz has just been released and fans have been excited about the movie. The movies feature Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. The movie focuses on a hilarious swap, that happens when the two couples attempt at surrogacy. Bollywood has lately been making films on several socially relevant topics, and it has been well accepted by the audiences. This film, however, isn’t the first film to talk about surrogacy, here are some films that have spoken about surrogacy before.
Good Newwz: Other films to watch that are based on surrogacy
Doosri Dulhan
Probably the first Bollywood film to ever talk surrogacy was the 1983 film, Doosri Dulhan. The film starred Sharmila Tagore, Shabana Azmi and Victor Banerjee. The film was a drama, between a couple who cannot bear children. This leads the husband to visit a brothel and ask a young woman to carry their child. The movie was directed by Lekh Tandon, and to make a movie in 1983 with such a strong social topic was a daring move.
Filhaal
The 2002 film Filhaal was another movie that talked openly about surrogacy. The film is about a woman who confides in her best friend to have her child when she realises that she cannot bear children. The film was directed by Meghna Gulzar and was quiet a commercial film upon its release. The film starred Sushmita Sen, Tabu, Palash Sen and Sanjay Suri.
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke
This film came out in 2001 and had big names in its cast like Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji. The film did not do too well at the box office, however, it did talk about the sensitive topic of surrogacy. The film revolves around a couple who hire a prostitute to be the surrogate mother for their child. However, the prostitute falls in love with the husband and demands that she will bear the child only if she gets the husband.
Mala Aai Vahhaychy!
This Marathi drama film released in 2010 was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed films to talk about surrogacy. This film was directed by Samruddhi Porey, who also worked on the film as well as acted in it. The film went on to win a National Award and gain massive praise from critics.
