The who’s who of Bollywood made their presence felt at the IIFA Awards held in Mumbai on Wednesday. The interesting bit about the awards this time has been that in its 20-year history, the event is being held in India after travelling the world over. And the excitement was palpable for the celebrities. One such actor was the veteran Dalip Tahil. The ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’ actor expressed his admiration for the awards, while being diplomatic about who he thought would win the Best Film. He highlightied the ‘green’ cause the IIFA Awards have been associated with.
Exclusive interview
In an exclusive interview with Republic TV on the sidelines of the IIFA Awards, Dalip Tahil said, “I’m quite surprised it’s in Bombay, they’re usually around the world, which is excellent. I say IIFA is the prodigal, which has returned,” He also said, “It is befitting that IIFA comes to Mumbai because it is the epicentre of Bollywood. It’s like a fantastic homecoming.”
Dilip Tahil, however, didn’t mention the film he was rooting for. “I have a lot of favourites. I feel there are movies tonight which are absolutely fantastic. I find it difficult to predict and I don’t want to isolate any movie in terms of prediction. Allow me to be diplomatic and wish all the films huge success. They are the top five films of the year,” he said.
Environment message
On the message for environment with the ‘Green Carpet’, Dalip Tahil said, “Water is a huge crisis, and we all need to conserve water. We all need to be very careful and understand that it’s a resourse that is depleting by the moment. And no water, no life, it all ends. It is important for the coming generation. And that we take care of the environment, trees, Swachh Bharat and plastic pollution.”
Dalip Tahil has played pivotal roles in films like ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’, ‘Baazigar’, among others. Recently, he was seen in ‘Mission Mangal’, which was a big hit and entered the Rs 200-crore club.
The IIFA Awards, apart from the fiercely fought categories of awards, will also feature several performances and hilarious acts.
