Independence Day Box Office Collection: Jailer, OMG 2, Gadar 2 collectively earn ₹109 cr

The box office has seen a storm in collections with several releases on the same day. Consequently, cine-goers have been spoilt for choice and shareholders have minted money from the features. On Independence Day, August 15, the OMG 2, Gadar 2 and Jailer collectively contributed Rs 109 crore in one day.

• Rajinikanth starrer Jailer was released a day in advance on August 10. 
• The movies have previously recorded history by making the dates ‘busiest weekend’ since the pandemic. 

Jailer, Gadar 2, OMG 2 drive massive audiences to theatres 

Independence Day is celebrated as a national holiday in the entire country and the day proved to be historic for the theatrical releases. On the day, the three movies ran housefull and drove large numbers of audiences to theatres. Collectively, the films have done a total business of Rs 109 crores at the domestic box office.

The biggest contributor among the three movies remains Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2. In India, on August 15, the film’s 1st Tuesday, it collected Rs 55.4 crores. This has taken the film’s total collection to Rs 228.9 Crores. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce that the film has created history by becoming the highest grosser on Independence Day ever. He also added that the film’s ‘demand has surpassed the supply’. 

Jailer and OMG 2 contribute a major chunk 

Jailer and OMG 2 have also made major contributions to the total business of Independence Day. As per Sacnilk, the Akshay Kumar starrer minted Rs 17.10 crore on its first Tuesday. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called the jump in film’s business an ‘eye-opener’. The film’s total business now stands at Rs 72.7 crores, slowly minting towards Rs 100 crores.

Rajinikanth starrer Jailer also continues to hold a strong audience in India. The action-thriller made Rs 36.5 on day 6. The movie has recorded history by making a total of Rs 416.19 crores, as per numbers given by Manobala. Altogether, the three movies have yet again driven massive business for film producers and exhibitors.
