'Is he the president of character certificate association?': Taapsee Pannu slams Radha Ravi for slut-shaming Nayanthara during Kolaiyuthir Kaalam trailer launch
'This is disgusting beyond words,' tweets Taapsee Pannu slamming Radha Ravi who slut-shamed Nayanthara during trailer launch
Veteran actor Radha Ravi slut-shamed superstar Nayanthara on the trailer launch of her film 'Kolaiyuthir Kaalam' on Saturday. He said: “Nayanthara acts as a ghost, and then she goes on to act as Sita as well. She acts as Sita! Earlier, to play the role of a goddess, they would look for [someone like] KR Vijaya. Now, anyone can be cast to play a goddess. They can cast someone who you want to pray to when you look at them, they can also cast someone you want to call towards you when you see them!”
The actor faced a lot of backlash from the South film industry and Bollywood for his misogynist comments against Nayanthara. Taapsee Pannu too has now voiced her opinion and said: "This is disgusting beyond words. Who asked him about casting pre requisites and is he the president of character certificate association? This comes for one of the strongest actresses of the industry,I can only wonder what he might have to say about others."
Actor Siddharth also took to his Twitter and wrote: "I was shocked that my entire fraternity was either silent or cynical about the #MeToo movement. I silently rued the fact that it would take only the anger of a powerful woman to make the sleeping wake up. If you speak up only when your own are affected, it's not called bravery." However, Siddharth later deleted some tweets and wrote: "My last tweets fail to communicate what I feel clearly, owing to me needing more words to clarify them. I'm deleting them out of respect to women and survivors. There is no need for muddled statements from men like me at this stage. The #metoo movement is more important. Sorry."
Actress Nayanthara later issued a press statement stating that 'actors like him they tend to rely on cheap popularity tactics in order to grab some limelight' when they become 'irrelevant.' She concluded by asking the South Indian Artistes’ Association when the Internal Complaints Committee would be set up and when internal inquiry as per Vishakha Guidelines would be commenced.
