JW Mariott fined Rs 25,000 after Rahul Bose was charged over Rs 400 for two bananas by the hotel

Rahul Bose recently got a taste of unreasonable pricing at a high-end luxury hotel in Chandigarh. Bizarrely, Bose was charged Rs. 442 for two bananas after which he was left baffled. However, after the tweet went viral, the Excise and Taxation Department sent a three-member team and seized all records in connection with the exorbitant GST rates charged by the hotel. Reportedly, the City Deputy Commissioner and the Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar ordered a probe into the matter after which the team paid a visit to the hotel. The officials have stated that it is not only a case of 'illegal and exorbitant charge of GST' but it is also a violation of the Consumer Protection Act.

And now in the latest update posted by ANI, the luxury hotel has been fined Rs 25,000 for violation of Section 11 of CGST, which is illegal collection of tax on an exempted item. 

Fine of Rs 25,000 imposed on hotel JW Marriott by Excise and Taxation Department, Chandigarh for violation of section 11 of CGST (illegal collection of tax on an exempted item) in connection with actor Rahul Bose's tweet over the price of two bananas served to him by the hotel.

Although the luxury hotel has been fined a heavy amount, netizens still can't seem to stop poking fun the hotel. While one user wrote, "They will recover the money by selling ten cups of the tea", another netizen remarked saying, "The tale of two bananas continues".

Meanwhile, due to the incident, Taj Hotels take a zinger at JW Mariott in an epic fashion. A tweet posted by a netizen featured an announcement by the Taj Hotels in which it pulled off a major zinger in an epic fashion directed at Mariott. It said that the luxury hotel would be 'delighted' to serve complimentary seasonal fresh fruits.
