Kangana Ranaut says Judgementall Hai Kya just 'broke even', here's why
Kangana Ranaut in an interview spoke about Judgementall Hai Kya's box-office figure. She said if the film was made without her, it would have been a blockbuster
Kangana Ranaut who was last seen in critically acclaimed film Judgementall Hai Kya, spoke about the film's not-so-great box-office collections. In an interview with a leading tabloid, Kangana said that if the film was made without her at a budget of Rs. 10 crore, it would have been a blockbuster at Rs. 40 crore. She further explained that because it was made at a budget of Rs. 30 crores, they just broke even at the box-office.
Kangana also said that she won't be acting in the film that she produces. She said: "There is a lot of talent around and I will hire actors who are perfect for the scripts. I will take new talent under my wing and guide them," she was quoted by Mid-Day.
The story of Judgmentall Hai Kya revolved around a mentally unstable Bobby, who finds her new neighbour Keshav (played by Rajkummar Rao) amusing. The sanity of Keshav makes a kooky Bobby doubt his intentions. Bobby's escapades her neighbour Kesav form the crux of the film. The movie shot in Mumbai and London was a box office hit. Critics believed Kangana's character was the kookiest and whackiest female lead of Bollywood.
Professional front
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Kangana Ranaut starred and jointly directed Manikarnika earlier this year. The film was based on 1857 freedom fighter Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi. The period action drama was a success at the box office, earning close to Rs 100 crore in India. The actor also has multiple films in her kitty at the moment. One is Panga, a Kabaddi-based film, being directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. She is also gearing up for Thalaivi, a biopic on late actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. Kangana was also seen in an all guns blazing avatar in the first poster of Dhaakad.
Jayalalithaa biopic
The film titled Jaya in Hindi and Thalaivi in Tamil narrates the life of the legendary actor turned politician, whose cadre revered her as their Amma (mother). The Kangana Ranaut starrer will be directed by Devi filmmaker AL Vijay and has been scripted by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad who has previously written critically acclaimed ventures like Baahubali and Manikarnika.
