Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan which is the sequel to the 2010 film Khichdi: The Movie, hit the big screens a week after Diwali 2023. After having a low-key run at the box office, the family comedy film is now ready for its OTT premiere.

Directed by Aatish Kapadia, the film reunites Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Jamnadas Majethia, Vandana Pathak, and Supriya Pathak Kapur in the lead roles. Following 2010's Khichdi: The Movie, it serves as the fifth and latest entry in the Khichdi franchise. Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan will premiere on the OTT platform ZEE5 from January 19.
The movie's storyline revolves around the Thodi Intelligent Agency (TIA) recruiting the eccentric Parekh family for a secret mission to Paanthukistan. Tasked with liberating an imprisoned Indian scientist and foiling the creation of a dangerous biorobot weapon, the family faces hilarious challenges in a poverty-stricken nation ruled by a king resembling one of their own.
Khichdi 2: Box office insights
As per the reports by media houses, Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan grossed Rs 1.1 crore domestically on its opening day. The film's Hindi market recorded an initial occupancy rate of 21.48%, showing a gradual increase from morning to evening shows, with percentages rising from 12.14% to a peak of 27.47%. Despite a slight decline in night screenings to 27.38%, industry predictions suggest a potential drop in earnings for the following Saturday.
Khichdi marked the first television series to inspire a Bollywood movie and was a pioneer in Indian sitcoms. The franchise expanded with Instant Khichdi in 2004, Khichdi: The Movie in 2010, and the 2018 series Khichdi Returns, each bringing fresh stories and laughter to audiences on both TV and the silver screen.
