Cinematography is one of the most crucial departments when it comes to film making. It is way more than capturing the scenic beauty and intense moments in a film. A good cinematographer often views the world differently with his eyes. The passion to capture your vision most uniquely is not easy. Here is a list of the top five cinematographers in India.

Binod Pradhan

Binod Pradhan is one of the most celebrated cinematographers in the country. His list of work includes some of the epic movies like Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, Devdas, Rang de Basanti, and many more. He began his career in the film industry with Ghashiram Kotwal in the year 1976.

Manmohan Singh

The man behind Yash Chopra's lens was Manmohan Singh. He has shot some of the classic movies like Lamhe (1991), Darr (1993), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Maachis (1996) and many more. He was honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer for Darr in 1994. He, later on, moved on to Punjabi cinema as well and gave some of the brilliant movies.

Anil Mehta

The National Award-winning cinematographer has a great eye for the world. Anil Mehta is reportedly a pass out from the FTII, Pune. He has evolved himself over the years by shooting some of the off-beat as well as mainstream films like Highway, Veer-Zara, Rockstar, Badlapur, and many more. India's official entry Lagaan that got nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film is also included in his best works.

Santosh Sivan

Santosh Sivan is popularly known for his work in the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi film industries. The ace cinematographer has won five National Awards for his work. He has shot films like Iruvar, Dil Se, Raavan, and Darbar. He is also a founding member of the Indian Society of Cinematographers. He has also frequently collaborated with the legendary director Mani Ratnam.

Jay Oza

Jay Oza is one of the talented and young cinematographers who has done some amazing work in the last few years. He has shot films like Anurag Kashyap's Raman Raghav and Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy. He has also been a part of various web series and advertisements. He is one of the most promising cinematographers and his work appeals to be very realistic.
