Neena Gupta Reacts As She Wins Second National Award For Best Supporting Actress For Uunchai

Neena Gupta National Award: The 65-year-old actress won her second National Award this year. The 70th National Film Awards were announced in the national capital on Friday. The awards honouring the best films and cinematic achievements of the year 2022, were announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) at a press conference today.

Neena Gupta Reacts to National Award Win for Uunchai 

As soon as the National Awards were announced, Neena Gupta took to her social media account to reshare a photo on her Instagram stories. In the picture, the veteran actress could be seen raising her hands in a prayer, seemingly thanking the almighty for the victory. The actress won the accolade for her role as Shabina Siddiqui, the wife of Javed (essayed by Boman Irani) in the film. Released in 2022, the film featured an ensemble cast including, Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta and Sarika. Skipping a theatrical release, the movie was directly premiered on OTT and received a good critical response.

This is not the first National Award for the actress. Previously, in 1993, Neena Gupta won the accolade in the category Best First Non-Feature Film Of A Director for the film Bazar Sitaram. She went on to win the Best Supporting Actress award for the film Woh Chokri in the following year. This marks the actress' third award.

Who won what at the National Film Awards this year? 


Malayalam film Aattam: The Play won the award for best feature film and Sooraj R Barjatya was judged best director for the Hindi movie Uunchai in the National Film Awards announced on Friday.

The best actress award was shared by Nithya Menon, who got it for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam, and Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati movie Kutch Express. The award for best actor went to Rishabh Shetty for the Kannada hit Kantara. Neena Gupta was the best supporting actress for Uunchai and Pawan Malhotra was the best supporting actor for the Haryanvi film Fouja. Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Gulmohar won the award for Hindi film. Bajpayee also got a special mention. The awards were announced by feature film jury head Rahul Rawail.
