#DrugFreeIndia campaign: Sanjay Dutt joins hands with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to fight against drug addiction

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been very open about the time he fell prey to substance abuse, recently joined hands with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to fight against drug addiction.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been very open about the time he fell prey to substance abuse, recently joined hands with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to fight against drug addiction. The actor started a campaign called the 'Drug-Free India campaign' to uproot drug abuse from the country. He took to Twitter on Sunday, February 10, and announced the initiative. He said that he always wanted to do something to eradicate drug addiction and this initiative is the first step towards that. Recalling the time he struggled with the addiction, Dutt said that he has learnt a lesson from the same and now wants to help the youth of our country.  

Sharing a picture of himself featured in the poster of the campaign, he wrote, "I always wanted to do something to uproot drug addiction from India. The #DrugFreeIndia campaign is a step towards that! Because of my personal experiences, it's a cause very close to my heart & I want to help the youth of our country. Thank you @SriSri guruji for your support"

Moreover, in a recent interview, Dutt reportedly opened up about his plans to join a nationwide campaign designed to fight against drug abuse. As per media reports, the actor reportedly revealed that the campaign will be organized at educational campuses in Chandigarh and Hisar on February 18 and 19 respectively. The campaign is planned to engage  25000 students on campus, and thousands of students will be able to watch its live broadcast.  Media reports suggest that the idea behind the initiative dates back to 2016 when the actor and some of his friends approached Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to guide them along the way.

The actor previously in several instances opened up about his struggles coming out of the addiction. He said that it is easy to get sucked into drug abuse, but very difficult to get out of it. Even his biopic 'Sanju', starring Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, narrated his struggles to do away with drug addiction.

Moreover, media reports suggest that several other Bollywood stars including Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Badshah, Sonu Nigam, Kapil Sharma, and Varun Sharma have also come forward to support the cause.
