Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ army connection

Priyanka Chopra Jonas was born on July 18, 1982, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to Ashok and Madhu Chopra. Her parents were physicians in the Indian Army. As per reports, due to her parents’ profession, the family kept moving to several places in India —Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala, Ladakh, Lucknow, Bareilly, and Pune. In an interview with a leading daily, Priyanka said that she did not mind travelling regularly and changing schools. She welcomed it as a new experience and saw it as an opportunity to explore India’s multicultural society. Among the schools she attended were La Martiniere Girls' School in Lucknow and St. Maria Goretti College in Bareilly.

As a child, Priyanka Chopra has fond memories of playing in the valleys of Leh. Her father was posted in the high-desert city for a year. In an event, she said that she was in class four when she was in Leh and her memories of that place are tremendous. Her brother was just born. She stated that they were all army kids there. They did not live in houses but in bunkers. There was a stupa right on top of a hill which used to overlook their valley. She mentioned that they used to race up to the top of the stupa. Priyanka now considers Bareilly as her home town and maintains strong connections there. She finished her high-school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly.

Called a "hypocrite"

Priyanka Chopra is known for her outspoken character. Earlier this year, during an interview for an event in Los Angeles, the actor was called “hypocrite” by a Pakistani-American woman, Ayesha Malik, who was attending a beauty conference featuring the star. She referred to Priyanka’s tweet in which she said Jai Hindi #IndianArmedForces. The mic was taken away from her. But Priyanka answered her by saying that she has many friends from Pakistan and that she was not fond of war but was a patriot.
