Ranu Mondal biopic in the works, here's who will play the lead

59-year-old Ranu Mondal who reportedly used to sing outside Kolkata railway station became an overnight sensation after her soulful rendition of Lata Mangeshkar's classic number 'Ek pyaar ka nagma hai' went viral on the internet. Her melodious voice was widely appreciated by the audience and was shared widely across social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. Read Here Biopic underway: As per news reports, a biopic on online sensation Ranu Mondal is in the works and she will be portrayed on screen by the National Award-winning Bengali actress Sudipta Chakraborty who has been offered the role. Confirming the same, Sudipta stated that she has been offered the film and is yet to receive the script. The film is directed by Journalist-turned-independent writer and is said to be titled as 'Platform singer Ranu Mondal'. Further, it will revolve around the singer's journey from Ranaghat railway station in West Bengal to Bollywood. As per media reports, Lata Mangeshkar said that by singing her song, or Kishore Kumar's song or Mohammad Rafi's song aspiring singers can get short-term attention, but it won't last. Music composer-actor Himesh Reshammiya has recorded a song titled "Teri Meri Kahani" with Mondal. He revealed that the song will feature in his upcoming film "Happy Hardy and Heer".
