Ranveer Singh: '83 director Kabir Khan on how Ranveer became Kapil Dev

'83 the film has been making headlines ever since its announcement. The movie is based on the real-life inspiring story of former cricketer Kapil Dev who was also the skipper of the Indian Cricket Team when India won the 1983 World Cup. In the movie, Ranveer Singh will be seen essaying the role of Kapil Dev. The film is directed by Kabir Khan. The film will also be featuring Deepika Padukone as Kapil Dev's wife, along with Adinath Kothare, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harrdy Sandhu, Pankaj Tripathi and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

Reportedly, the movie team has worked relentlessly to get Ranveer's look right. They also had a special team of make-up artists and technicians who created the actor's look that resembled the legendary cricketer as closely as possible. Ranveer Singh also studied Kapil Dev's body language by spending time with Kapil Dev and reportedly binge-watching his old matches, interviews and by attending workshops with the rest of the cast.

In one of his interviews with a media publication, director Kabir Khan spoke about the film. He admitted that as he started working on '83, he realised no other actor except Ranveer Singh was perfect to portray Kapil Dev's role. He also thinks that Ranveer possesses the same physicality and the same discipline that is required to portray a legend like Kapil Dev. Kabir Khan also spoke about Ranveer's look in the movie. He said that it was difficult to get the look perfect as they did not want to make use of any prosthetics. Since the movie is about sports and sports involves playing all day long under the sun and prosthetics would have made it difficult, he went on to clarify. He also revealed that it was a process of about two months and after eight day-long sessions Ranveer Singh finally transformed into Kapil Dev.

In conversation with a leading daily, Kabir Khan was asked whether Kapil Dev saw Ranveer Singh's look in the film. He shared that Ranveer and himself were very excited when Kapil Dev actually saw Ranveer's look for the first time. He also added that Kapil Dev got really excited and pleasantly surprised. Kapil Dev also started showing Ranveer's look to all the people present at his place at Sundar Nagar in Delhi. Kabir Khan disclosed that Kapil Dev made their day when he happily said that Ranveer looks exactly like him.

The film is scheduled to hit the silver screen in 2020
