Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein: The trailer of the much-anticipated film was launched in Mumbai today. The film will hit the big screens on August 15 alongside Vedaa and Stree 2. Featuring an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Vaani Kapoor and Fardeen Khan, Khel Khel Mein is the official remake of the film Perfect Strangers which holds a mention in the Guinness Book Of World Records for being remade most number of times.

All about Perfect Stranger- an Italian film that was remade in more than 20 languages

Released in 2016, Perfetti Sconosciuti is an Italian romantic comedy-drama that seemingly breached all geographic and linguistic boundaries. The film holds the Guinness Book Of World Records for being remade 24 times as of January 2024. The latest version to add to its merit is Akshay Kumar starrer Hindi film Khel Khel Mein.

The premise of the film is simple. The narrative follows a group of friends who get together for a dinner party and take on a challenging game. Every member on the table is expected to keep their phones unlocked and make all their activities on it thereon public. As the evening descends texts are read aloud, calls answered on speakerphone and emails checked publically. What ensues is a series of fights, betrayal of trust and the breaking up of rock-solid relationships. An unexpected twist in the end holds the plot together.

DYK Perfect Strangers has already been remade in India twice

Akshay Kumar is no stranger to remakes. The actor has headlined several Hindi adaptations of regional movies including Sarfira, Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Rowdy Rathore. While Khel Khel Mein is the first official remake of the Italian flick, the story has previously been adapted for the Malayalam movie 12th Man. Featuring an ensemble cast led by Mohanlal, the film was premiered directly on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar. However, many remain unaware of the film.

A year later, the Telugu industry too used the film's plot for a film titled Richie Gadi Pelli. Though it did not create much impact at the box office, it featured the likes of Praneeta Pattnaik, Bunny Vox, SK Sathya and Kishore Marrisetty. It remains critical to see if Khel Khel Mein can replicate the success of the original Italian cult film. The movie is of special importance for Akshay Kumar who is emerging from a string of flops at the box office.
