Saand Ki Aankh, featuring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar as the two main leads, is slated to release on October 25, 2019, and the upcoming movie has been generating quite a buzz amongst the filmgoers. The film is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and is produced by Anurag Kashyap and Reliance Entertainment. Saand Ki Aankh is based on the real life story of the sharpshooters Chandro and Prakashi Tomar. With this film, the director aims to showcase their inspiring story to the world. Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar undertook shooting classes and went through a physical transformation for their respective roles.

Who are the Tomar Sisters?

Prakashi Tomar, one of the oldest sharpshooters in the world, hails from the Johri Village of Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district. Through sharpshooting, Prakashi discovered a way for women to live with dignity in the male dominating society. Known for her shooting skills, the 'Revolver Dadi' has won many medals and trophies in various state and national level events. Chandro Tomar is the sister-in-law of Prakashi Tomar and is nicknamed 'Shooter Dadi'. Chandro began learning shooting in 1999 and won more than 30 national championships.

How they come into prominence?

Chandra and Prakashi Tomar appeared in a segment on Aamir Khan’s television show, Satyamev Jayate. The show used to air on Star Plus. On this show, Aamir Khan used to focus on societal problems and figure out solutions to deal with them. Since the time the sharpshooter duo made a place for themselves nationally and internationally after winning multiple awards, thousands have begun to look up to the two of them. Girls from Johri took up shooting as a sport and got jobs in the Army, Police, BSF with the help of the Sports quota. After getting to know their impressive accomplishments, Bollywood star Aamir Khan himself extended an invite to both of them to appear on his show.

Their appearance on the Amir Khan's show helped them reach a larger audience. Realising how inspirational their journey was, the makers of Saand Ki Aankh wanted to showcase their journey on celluloid.

Talking about the film, director Tushar Hiranandani said, “When I saw the Shooter Dadis on Aamir Khan’s show, Satyamev Jayate and came to know about their journey and achievements, I just couldn’t control my tears. I was so inspired that I told my wife, Nidhi, that this story needs to be told. At that given moment we decided to tell their story to the world and yes that’s how Saand Ki Aankh happened.”
