Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan ventured into Bollywood last year, and reports are doing the rounds that his son Ibrahim is also gearing up for a debut soon. The youngsters ‘inherit’ their father’s choice of career, just like Saif had ‘inherited’ it from his mother, Sharmila Tagore. From his father too, he inherited the title of ‘Nawab’ and the other things that comes with it, like the Pataudi Palace in Haryana. However, the truth is that Saif did not ‘inherit’ much. While the actor had earlier revealed that the family had lost the ‘Pataudi’ title after the Indian Government abolished all princely titles, even the Pataudi Palace did not come to him ‘by default.’ The Omkara star has now revealed that after his father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s death, the palace was rented out, but he earned it back through his hard-earned money. The 49-year-old said that one can’t live off the past, since there was only a 'privileged upbringing', but no inheritance per se.

In a recent interview with a daily, Saif shared that people have a ‘fixed notion’ about him and family in terms of inheritance. However, the truth was that he did not even inherit the family palace per se, since the Pataudi Palace got rented out to a hotel, Neemrana Hotels, after the death of his father, he shared. The actor revealed that the hotel was run by two persons at that time, however, after the death of one of them, the other person asked Saif if he’d be interested to buy the palace again. The Sacred Games star stated that he was obviously interested and said, â€˜I want it back’.  But there was a rider from that person, ‘You have to give us lots of money!’  Saif said that he agreed and eventually succeeded in paying that person the money by earning it through his films.

The actor emphasised that even the house he supposedly inherited too was not ‘inherited’ because he had to earn it back. Said added it was not possible for one to live off the past, particularly in his family. They had ‘history, culture, beautiful photographs’ and land  and a ‘privileged upbringing’ but no inheritance.
