Salman Khan plays the role of Prem, a top student who is learning the family business from his elder brother Rajesh and uncle Kailashnath, who is a big industrialist. Rajesh is about to get married to Pooja, who is the elder sister of Nisha, played by Madhuri Dixit. During the marriage, Prem meets Nisha and falls in love with her. The story jumps ahead as a few months pass by and Pooja is now pregnant. Nisha is invited to come and stay with her sister to attend the traditional function before the child's birth. An unfortunate accident occurs after the birth of the child and Pooja dies. Both Nisha and Prem are in love and want to get married. This tragedy puts their plans to live together in jeopardy.
