Sheer Qorma: How Swara Bhasker prepared for this romantic drama

The repulsion of Section 377 has empowered filmmakers to delve into the lives of queer characters, which was taboo until a few years. One such director, who plans to narrate a tale of love among two women is Faraz Arif through her movie Sheer Qorma. The makers on Saturday unveiled the first poster of the film. The film starring Swara Bhasker and Divya Dutta in the lead has wowed the internet with some heartwarming reactions from the audience.

Sheer Qorma: A sensitive and warm movie on love

The cast and crew of the film were recently in an engaging conversation with a real-life lesbian couple, discussing love and the insensitive portrayal of queer personalities in the films. During one such discussion published on a leading news portal, the lead star Swara Bhasker disclosed how she prepared for the role in Sheer Qorma. Swara, who is a known name in the industry, has showcased her acting capabilities in movies like Anaarkali of Aarah, Tanu weds Manu, Nil Battey Sannata, among others. But, in her decade long career, the actor has never played the role of a lesbian. Swara revealed how she went the unconventional way to prepare for Sheer Qorma. The actor initially had planned to visit and talk to lesbian couples, as a part of her preparation for the film. But in retrospect, she realised how the sexual orientation of her characters has never been her concern in her previous movies. So she skipped her conventional role preparation process and went with the flow of the film. Swara plays the role of Sitara in this romantic drama, which also has Shabana Azmi in a pivotal role. Reportedly she will play mother to Swara's character. 

The actor last featured in Veere Di Wedding. The movie starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania in the lead was a box office hit. Reportedly the makers of the film are planning a sequel to the 2018 hit movie.
