Sidharth Malhotra, who debuted as one of the students in the Karan Johar directorial Student of the Year, has appeared in several Bollywood films since 2012. He started his career as a model and then worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar. Sid has now become a known name in the list of today's actors and a heartthrob among his fans, as evidenced by his social media. The SOTY actor also won the Filmfare Award for Best Debutant Actor.
Sidharth Malhotra's performance at the box office
Sidharth started his career in 2012 and has done several movies since then. Not every film out of them did well at the box office. The actor has multiple films that tanked at the box office like Jabariya Jodi, Ittefaq, Baar Baar Dekho, and several more. Based on these box-office collections, it can be said that his career has witnessed a downfall since Baar Baar Dekho which released in 2016.
The last hit film delivered by the Student of the Year actor is Kapoor & Sons, where he was starred alongside Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan. The film crossed the 100 crore mark at the box office and was a huge success. Kapoor & Sons released in 2016 and, since then, none of his films performed well commercially. Ittefaq was loved by a lot of the audiences who watched the film but did not turn out to be a commercial hit overall.
The stakes are running high for Sidharth, as his next film, Marjaavaan, is slated to release next month. Malhotra will be seen alongside his rumoured girlfriend Tara Sutaria. Riteish Deshmukh will also be seen in the movie but he will play the role of a dwarf antagonist in the film. The film is helmed by Milap Zaveri, and he has full faith in Sidharth and the success of the film.
In an interview, when being asked about Sidharth's career downfall, Milap was quick to defend him by saying that every hit actor has a phase where their movies do not work. He also drew a comparison against Shahid Kapoor's career and Sidharth's career and stated that Ek Villain was loved by the audiences and he is also hoping that Marjaavaan will also garner the same amount of acclaim both critically and commercially.
